Vietnam War Point Of View - 1463 Words
Despite popular belief, Vietnam has been the battleground for only a limited number of military conflicts in history. The country fell under the rule of China and France at early points in its history before claiming its full independence in 1945. Many Americans still view Vietnam from the Vietnam War point of view because it ended in a United States defeat. Since that war almost 40 years ago, Vietnamââ¬â¢s leadership has had a plan in place to rebuild the countryââ¬â¢s infrastructure and solidify its place in the world. Today, Vietnam continues to thrive economically by taking advantage of its natural resources and location despite being the home to one of the last single-party Socialist governments in the world. Vietnam is a long winding section of land on the eastern side of the Indochinese peninsula. Including its island area, it has just over 128,000 miles of land, or slightly more space than the state of New Mexico. Vietnam has three borders countries: China (to the north ), Laos (to the central-west) and Cambodia (to the southwest). On a map, the country looks like an elongated-S just over 1,000 miles in length and only 31 miles in width at its maximum. Three main bodies of water also border Vietnam. The water boundaries are the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest, the South China Sea to the southeast, and the Gulf of Tonkin to the northeast. The country claims the first 12 nautical miles off its shoreline as territorial property and the first 200 nautical miles as anShow MoreRelatedA Different Point of View of the Vietnam War in Tim OBriens The Things They Carried1235 Words à |à 5 Pagesotherââ¬â¢s points of view, one thing most people do not realize is that when you actually experience the event, you will have a different point of view versus trying to relate to it. Classification of Math, Logic, and Music as Language Essay Example For Students
Classification of Math, Logic, and Music as Language Essay Would you classify mathematics, logic and music as languages? Justify your answer, considering the extent to which they resemble or differ from natural language and the role they play in the acquisition of knowledge. Language is best defined as something that is intended, creative and open-ended, and structured. Mathematics, logic, and music all fairly represent each of the requirements of language. Math, logic and music are all intended, creative, and open-ended. If spoken and written languages were considered to be natural languages, then it would be fair to consider these three to be unnatural languages due to their different nature. While they may not resemble natural languages externally, these unnatural languages are actually very similar when discussed further. For example, many college students majoring in the field of engineering and mathematics often describe their computer programming classes as nearly identical to a foreign language class, not only in the way it is taught, but also because learning to communicate with a computer is similar to learning a hard, new language. A large debate about language is whether it is innate or not. While it must be taught some, language must also be somewhat innate in order for children to have the ability to peak using grammar without having had formal instruction. However, it could be argued that not all of these have an inherent structure, nor are they able to actually convey any knowledge, which would deny that they are indeed languages. Contrarily, math clearly has a structure, whether it is on metric conversions to long division to trigonometry to calculus. Every part of math has a basic structure to it, like using formulas. It is used everyday to discover new mathematical findings. Music also has a bit of a structure due to the necessity of actually being able to read sheet music in order to create sound. Music is often used to convey meaning and emotions as well, which gives it a form of structure in and of itself. Logic, on the other hand, could be mistaken for not having much of a structure, if one at all, which could cause some to believe that logic is not actually a language. While it is clear that logic can be used to express knowledge, many would disagree with it actually being considered a language. Some think that while logic is a useful tool, it should only be considered as a part of reason, not language. However, in reviewing what was learned about logic, it can become clear that logic does actually have a structure. Due to the existence of logical fallacies, the overall subject of logic has boundaries, which could be considered to be a structure. Math is probably the easiest of the three to identify as a language. Contrarily, many think that since math can only be used to describe quantities, it must not be an actual language. And while it cannot convey emotion, mathematics- when used in physics- can describe sound, motion, and color. Also, all that is required is simple understanding in order to be able to comprehend math. It Classification of Math, Logic, and Music as Language By charlady English but has a basic understanding of most Spanish conjugations and nouns, then that person would most likely be able to read a sentence in Spanish with little problem. Similarly, anyone that has a firm grasp on the basics of most math can interpret and understand Just about any equation, graph, or sequence. Math also reflects on another way of knowing, reason, which only strengthens its classification as a language because of the amount of overlapping that occurs between the different ways of knowing. Music is a bit more complex to describe. The writing and reading part of music is undeniably language. Again, back to the Spanish example, if someone were to have a good understanding of how to read sheet music, then they would probably have little trouble singing a song based on its sheet music. It is similar to math because it uses symbols to convey an action to be performed, or in this case, a note to be sang for a certain count. .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 , .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .postImageUrl , .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 , .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127:hover , .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127:visited , .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127:active { border:0!important; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127:active , .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127 .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9bc954c29214f2dd71c9d8d31f9c6127:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Humanism in ESL language testing EssayHowever, most musicians would agree that music itself is not a series of notes of a piece of paper, but rather an interpretation of said notes. Music conveys emotion where mathematics cannot, through the contrast of tones and the personal interpretation on that particular sound by the musician. Logic is the most debatable of all of these unnatural languages due to its heavy reliance on other forms of written and spoken language. Logic plays a large role in both mathematics and music as well. It can be also used as a filter through math, music, natural language. In math, logic is used constantly when considering the outcomes of both simple and complex operations. For example, without logic, a simple addition problem such as adding four and six could equal twenty-two rather than ten. Logic also plays a role in music as well. In most music, the ending note matches the beginning note of the piece. However, when this does not happen the composer works to create a certain pattern in the notes using logical analysis. Also, the tones and rhythm a vocal musician uses can be Justified using logical scrutiny. A certain rhythm matched with a certain tone can be used to get a particular reaction out of listeners. Although they are often not as simple to pick up as natural languages are, each of these unnatural languages can also be somewhat innate. However, it changes from person to person. For example, a violinist that plays in orchestras around the world has much more innate talent than a tone-deaf child hitting a can with sticks. The same applies to the other two. For example, Sherlock Holmes, though a fictional character, used deductive reasoning extraordinarily, deducing knowledge from the smallest of observations. Holmes could not have only been taught such remarkable skill because logic comes from both innate and learned reasoning. Similarly, if you have two children that take the exact same math classes, with the exact same teacher, learning the exact same material, yet one of these children struggles while the other is a master at it, then clearly the capacity for mathematical application is higher in the kid who excels at it. Language is the one ay of knowing that is required in order for the other three to exist. The main use for language is communication, but not all communication is language. Without the ability to communicate, humanity and culture would not have survived the thousands of years that they have been around. Part of the advancement of humanity and culture are the uses of mathematics, music, and logic to solve problems and answer language, so they must be considered languages. Also, these three unnatural languages must be somewhat innate, which provides us with knowledge not Just on these specific languages, but on the topic of language as a whole.

Missed Nursing Care free essay sample
Patient safety is a concern in the hospital setting. Missed nursing care due to high nurse patient ratios, or staffing issues leads to patient falls. Patient falls tend to be a big issue and expensive matter for hospitals nationwide. This paper will focus on a qualitative research article regarding missed nursing care, staffing, and patient falls. Included will be a summary of the research, methods and research used in the study, significance of the research findings, ethical considerations, and a conclusion. Summary of Research Problem Falls pose problems for many patients, such as death, fractures, functional need, and afraid of reoccurrence. Although, hospitals have set forth evidence based guideline strategies for de creasing the number of falls. Consistency and implementation of the strategies are limited. Data was gathered from 188 medical surgical units in 48 separate hospitals nationwide. Data revealed there was not consistent use of interventions to address specific risks. The findings go hand in hand with nursing care being regularly missed. We will write a custom essay sample on Missed Nursing Care or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Nursing care often gets missed due to staffing issues. Missing any nursing care or not fully completing tasks leads to patient falls (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012). Methods and Research Used in the Study A qualitative approach was used in the design of this research. The research project was conducted in smaller scale hospitals of 60 beds to larger scaled hospitals with 913 beds. The total number of units was 124, this was broken down to as little as 2 units in the smaller hospitals to as many as 22 unitsà in the bigger hospitals. Unit inclusion criteria were, an average patient length of stay of 2 days or more and, a patient population greater than 18 years. Exclusion criteria were short stay units and pediatric, womens health, perioperative, and psychiatric units. All patient care units in the hospitals that met the inclusion criteria agreed to participate in the study (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012). 3432 nurses were included in this study. In addition to nurses 980 nursing assistants were participants of this study. The surveys return rate was 57. 3%, some units was as high as 99.6% and as low as 34. 4%. (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012). Missed nursing care data was collected from the MISSCARE survey. This survey focuses on identifying the rate of missed care. (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012). The article states that the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicator standards was used as a guideline to describe Hour Per Patient Day (HPPD). The number of working hours by all nursing staff was to calculate these HPPD values (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012). Any witnessed or unwitnessed event that leads to a patient found on a floor is used as a definition for patient falls. A ratio of falls per 1000 patient days was used as the calculation of fall rates for this research. (Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012). Significance of Research Findings Statistical analysis showed that there is a high correlation between patient falls and the factors of nurse staffing that were addressed in this study. This shows that nurse staffing is significant in preventing patient falls and safety concerns in the hospital. The findings in data collected reinforce previous findings that greater staffing leads to fewer patient falls in the hospital. There were several correlations between the data collected and patient falls. The correlation and data collected also support that the types of missed care can be predicted at different staffing levels(Kalisch, Tschannen Lee, 2012). Ethical Considerations After institutional review board approval from each of the contributing hospitals, study data was collected from November 2008 to August 2009. During the research process patient privacy remained protected. No ethical issues were listed to being an issue. Conclusion The findings from this research study emphasizes the significance of guaranteeing that required care is accomplished daily, to decrease the number of patient falls. Although, staffing may affect the rates of patient falls, the level of influence is lowered when care is finished entirely. Additional work must be done to help nurses in completing essential tasks such as ambulating patients, assisting patients with toileting, patient assessments, and answering call lights, which may mean more staff members. Techniques for helping staff members complete all portions of nursing care include lists, reminders, and engagement of the patient. Until it is completely understood that the process of nursing care and its relationships to patient outcomes are related, we will not be able to develop positive strategies to stop unfavorable proceedings such as falls. Staffing and nurse to patient ratios should be considered to help aid in nursing care completion.

Visit to the planetarium essays
Visit to the planetarium essays Second Paper 11-27-00 I attended the Wagner College Planetarium(located in Spiro Hall)on November 15, 2000 at 11:00 for research and to observe the stars, planets and our entire solar system more closely. There was a clear dome on the ceiling for us to see the sky. The director of the show was Dennis Anderson. He put the latitude to forty degrees, and dimmed the lights. Up in the sky the stars are beautiful and bright. They seem, by the naked eye to be moving but the earth is what is actually moving. Everyone knows that the sky doesn't move. The earth rotates around the sun. The earth being in a different spot in its' orbit all the time gives us different stars to see at different times out of the year. A star is a huge ball of glowing gas in the sky. The Sun is a star. It is the only star close enough to the earth to look like a ball. The other billions of stars are so far away that they are no more than a pinpoint of light. A constellation is a bunch of stars in the sky that form a picture. Each Constellation has a definite time of the year when it reaches its highest point. At latitudes to far north or to far south of the equator, many constellations do not reach there culminates high enough to be seen. The constellations appear to move westward as the earth rotates around the Sun. For this reason, certain constellations can only be seen during one season of the year. There is Pegasus which is extremely large. If you connect the stars of Pegasus it is supposed to look like a horses body. However it is upside down. The instructor put a line going across the middle of the dome. It separated the sky from north to south. He said this line is called the Meridian. When a star is at the Meridian it is at its highest point. It is nine degrees elliptical on each side. The second brightest star is Mercury it has a very thick atmosphere. However the brightest star neares ...

Learning about legal aspects of contract practice and procedure Assignment
Learning about legal aspects of contract practice and procedure - Assignment Example In some countries, a valid substitute can satisfy the element attention. The law can also terminate contracts. The law tends to provide remedies in case of breaching of the promise. The law also recognizes the commitmentââ¬â¢s performance as a duty. Existence of duty gives rise to contracts due to the promise that one of the parties makes. For a contract to be legally bound, the promise has to be exchanged so that it may be adequately considered. Mainly, the governance of contracts lies on the hands of common law, state statutory and the private law. Private law primarily concentrates on agreement terms made between the parties involved exchange (Chen-Wishart, 2007). The case of Barry is tricky since there are no written documents to show that they had entered into a contract with Iva. It is clear and evident that the offer is a key element which provides a definition of the contractââ¬â¢s relevant issues. For an offer to be legally valid, it must be first communicated efficiently. This gives the receiving party the ability to either accept or reject because a contract is only entered into voluntarily. It does not of importance on whether the receiving party reads the contract or not, but he or she has no bearing when it comes to determination of the offerââ¬â¢s clarity. The offer should only provide a clear opportunity to the recipient of rejecting or accepting the contract. However, in case of someone enters into a contract without reading or understanding it, it is for his or her risk (Chen 2007, p 130). In addition, particular and definite terms must be in place for an offer to be considered valid. The contractââ¬â¢s terms are considered definite when a reasonable person has a capability understanding readily the terms. In the case of Barry, he was given an offer by Iva and clearly understood the terms in that contract. However, review by the courts on whether the terms are definite is usually done with the help of primary elements agreement.
